Ballistic Identification

In recent years, the field of ballistics comparison has made numerous strides thanks to the industry database called IBIS- - Integrated Ballistics Identification System created by the Canadian LeadsOnLine (formerly Forensic Technology) and currently in use by 80 nations in INTERPOL, which is the holder of the database.
In Italy, Assing has been working with public forces since 2000, always with positive results. The basic functionality of this computer tool is to automate ballistic comparison by systematically and objectively comparing the images of the exhibits of interest with those stored in the system, an activity that would be impossible to accomplish manually. Any positive correlation provided by Interpol's IBIS database must always be confirmed by a subsequent direct comparator microscope comparison of the original find, as per the protocol established for input. The optical comparator microscope, Vision X made by the Swiss company Projectina, is an essential precision instrument in ballistic investigations. Designed for the detailed comparison of bullets and cartridge cases, it allows experts to simultaneously examine and compare two samples, detecting the slightest differences or similarities in surfaces with extreme precision. Also useful to this field are Assing's clean room and scanning electron microscopy solutions for residue and gunpowder.
